About
What is Briteway and how does it work?
Briteway is an innovative travel app designed to assist train travellers, currently in Wales and soon around the rest of the UK. It works by using Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) to show you inside train stations in real time and help you navigate them. The app helps you in two ways. The first is planning your rail journeys, so that you can view in advance the layout, access and amenities in stations, see how you can navigate them or swap to a more accessible route. The other is real-time navigation and information during your journey. This includes a live chat function to speak to station staff.
How do I get started and set up my account?

Then follow the on screen options to create your account using your name and email account. What do you mean by “Empowering you to travel’?
Travelling by train can be challenging for some people, e.g. reduced mobility, require a ramp or lift, can’t use stairs, have difficulty navigating, or find travel stressful, especially travel to new, unfamiliar places. Briteway uses Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) to help you see in advance where you’re going, taking away the worry of what you’ll find when you get there. With station navigation, real-time visual aids and valuable station information, it’s like having a trusted travel companion by your side. It can help you travel more than you otherwise would, including to places you weren’t sure you could go. This is what we mean when we say it empowers you.
Who is behind Briteway and its development?
Briteway was created by Briteyellow in partnership with Transport for Wales. It is funded by The Design Age Institute, the UK’s national strategic unit for design and the healthy ageing economy, the Department for Transport, and Innovate UK. Through the transformative power of design, Design Age Institute aims to help everyone age happier and healthier. Briteway is part of its Transport & Mobility Pathfinder Innovation Programme. It has been designed by Studiomade, a creative agency specialising in digital products for the healthcare sector.
